Carlos Ulberg and Jan Blachowicz are out of their scheduled appearances at UFC 297 on January 20. Both fighters have sustained injuries.
In an Instagram story on December 30, Dominick Reyes revealed that his bout with Ulberg had been canceled:
"Hey everyone my fight [on] Jan 20 has been called off due to my opponent's "injury". We are currently looking at options or rescheduling. I've had a great camp and I'm def frustrated but God has a plan."
Ulberg replied, "[Dominick Reyes] relax buddy, you're not about "that life." Rest well!"
With this news, Reyes will either receive a new opponent or the bout will be rescheduled for a later date. #14 ranked Reyes is stressed for options as the American athlete vies for a chance to stay in the light heavyweight rankings.
Blachowicz was forced from his rematch after scheduling surgery on his injured shoulders. The Polish slugger posted pictures on Twitter on December 23, admitting that he'd have to wait "a little while longer" to return to the octagon:
The light heavyweight bout has been canceled altogether, but in a turn of events, Rakic has been rescheduled against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 300 on April 13.
UFC CEO Dana White announced the light heavyweight contender matchup on December 22.
