Marc Lore And Alex Rodriguez Set The Record Straight After Timberwolves Owner Glen Taylor Calls Off Sale Of The Team

In a statement released on Thursday, Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez issued their response after news broke of their failed pursuit to purchase the Minnesota Timberwolves for $1.5 billion. In the response, they blame current owner Glen Taylor for experiencing seller’s remorse. 

“We are disappointed with Glen Taylor’s public statement today. We have fulfilled our obligations, have all necessary funding and are fully committed to closing our purchase of the team as soon as the NBA completes its approval process,” wrote Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez in a statement, via ESPN. “Glen Taylor’s statement is an unfortunate case of seller’s remorse that is short sighted and disruptive to the team and the fans during a historic winning season.”

Last month, the sale of the Timberwolves was reported to be in its final stages but that changed when Taylor issued a statement on social media which revealed he was not selling the team after all.

“I will continue to work with Marc, Alex and the rest of the ownership group to ensure our teams have the necessary resources to compete at the highest levels on and off the court,” said Taylor. “The Timberwolves and Lynx are no longer for sale.”

Taylor had been in the process of selling for years and he had taken Rodriguez under his wing to teach him basic team operations. Behind the scenes, there were rumblings that something was amiss with the transaction.

As the process kept dragging out, pressure was building on both sides to complete the sale once and for all but Glen pulled a move nobody saw coming by calling off the whole thing entirely. Of course, had Rodriguez and company had the money on time to begin with, they might have taken control before Taylor pulled out. Now, it’s too late to buy the team and nobody will have the chance for quite some time.

A New Future For The Minnesota Timberwolves

It’s not yet known why Glen Taylor decided to take his team off the market instead of just trying to sell it to someone else. Even so, he picked a good time to stick around and he may be better off seeing how far this team can go.

While the Timberwolves may have the same owner, it’s not the same team as when he first took over back in 1994.

On Wednesday, the Wolves won their 50th game of the season and now sit just a half-game back from the top seed in the Western Conference. They’ve been among the best defensive teams in the league all season long and have played disciplined, organized, and respectable basketball from start to finish.

The biggest impact of all in Minnesota is young star Anthony Edwards. He’s blossoming into a superstar this season and his amazing feats on offense and defense are truly a sight to behold. Through 69 games this season, he’s averaging 26.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game on 46% shooting.

In the frontcourt, the combined talents of Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns has found a dangerous rhythm that makes them a lethal tandem on both ends of the court.

With so much going for the team right now, it would be a shame for Taylor to leave before the best times start to roll in —and it seems he agrees. For now, Glen is keeping his role on the team, for better or worse, and he’s seeing this through until the end, when the franchise is likely to be worth much more, regardless.
