Former Patriots player makes Tom Brady plea for 49ers

It certainly appears that talk about legendary quarterback Tom Brady possibly making a comeback either before or during the 2024 NFL season isn't quieting down anytime soon. 

As shared by Kyle Madson of Niners Wire/USA Today, former New England Patriots tight end and current WEEI personality Jermaine Wiggins campaigned during a Tuesday appearance on San Francisco sports radio station 95.7 The Game for the San Francisco 49ers to give Brady a call. 

"If I’m San Francisco, I’d be picking up the phone again and saying, 'Hey Tom, what do we got to do to get you here?' Because how long is the window gonna stay open for the 49ers?" Wiggins said. 

There's plenty to unpack here. 

It's now no secret that San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan wanted Brady to join the club months ahead of the 2023 season when current 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy was recovering from a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. 

Such a plan was hatched before Purdy returned to action for Week 1 of this past campaign and before he became a finalist for the regular-season Most Valuable Player Award. 

Purdy guided the 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII, where he completed 23-of-38 passes for 255 yards with a touchdown in the 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. 

One may believe the greatest winner in NFL history could give the 49ers better on the sport's biggest stage, and Brady teased during a podcast appearance last month he could play for a contender later this coming season at the age of 47.

Nick Wagoner of ESPN noted that Purdy likely will play only one more campaign on his inexpensive seventh-round rookie contract before he inks a massive extension. Thus, the 49ers theoretically could afford to have Brady on a one-year deal if he's serious about pursuing an eighth career Super Bowl ring:
