AC Milan’s Primavera side might have been suffering from the hangover of their UEFA Youth League final defeat against Olympiacos as they lost 2-1 at home against Monza this afternoon.

The European dream came crashing to an end in the final as they lost 3-0 against Olympiacos in Switzerland earlier in the week, but the squad had the responsibility of responding with three points against Monza.

Things were on track when the Rossoneri’s best player on the field – Mattia Liberali – gave them a 1-0 lead after 36 minutes. The midfielder controlled the ball in the middle of the crowded box, took it onto his left foot and found the far corner with an excellent low shot.

However, Monza came roaring back in the second half. They got the equaliser in the 52nd minute through Marras, and then in the 70th minute they went ahead through Antunovic’s excellent shot after a nice feint to fool two defenders.

Milan have made life complicated for themselves in terms of qualifying for the play-offs, given that they remain two points behind Torino and without a game in hand any more. A comeback mission will be needed to snatch that fifth spot and continue the season for Abate’s men.
