Kerber outplayed Gauff in Monday's most significant moments, converting four of five break points she created and saving four of six that she faced. It is the second time Gauff has lost in the fourth round, including her breakthrough run at the tournament in 2019.
Kerber won Wimbledon in 2018 and is the only former champion left in the women's tournament. The native of Germany is set to take on 24-year-old Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic, who eliminated Paula Badosa of Spain 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, in the quarterfinal on Tuesday.
